Alderman JGE Tesky King

Denise Dalton

Denise Dalton who was working in a shoe shop on Holderness Road in Hull in the sixties, found herself the unexpected centre of attention on memorable day thanks to a well connected relative.

Denise Dalton came in to Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio Humberside's Late Show to share a special memory about a relative whose name is well known in the city of Kingston-upon-Hull.

Denise works for the Hull City council and works at various venues across the city ensuring that entertainment events run smoothly. She divides her work time between, Hull's Princes Quay, the Hull City Hall and the Hull New Theatre.

Denise has been on television many times, mainly appearing in quiz programmes. One of the highlights of her time before the cameras was winning Noel Edmonds' Telly Addicts, not just once but twice. She got a trip to the United States in to the bargain.

These days in her not-so-spare time, she appears in local theatre productions and in her interview recalls her first stage outing.

Portrait

Denise brought in a photograph of a portrait painting of her grandfather when he was the Lord Mayor of Hull in 1963. Although a councillor, his full-time job was as a chief accountant at Northern Dairies.

The Teskey King school on Inglemire Lane in Hull bears his name (Alderman JGE Teskey King) and was so named in 1964. Denise recalls what it was like for her during his year in office.

There's one particular day that springs to mind when she was working in a shoe shop in Hull. She said:"They sent the Rolls to pick me up, 'KH1', everyone (was) coming out of the shops and looking to see what was going on. We were going for a family meal at the Guildhall, it was the family banquet and wonderful". She added: "I don't think I've ever travelled in a Rolls since". The event was captured by photographers from the Yorkshire Post and she still has a clipping from the paper to this day.
