All about Andy

Find out more about Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Humberside's breakfast presenter.

Andy Comfort presents our Breakfast Show. In fact, he has done so for more than a decade, that accounts for the bags under the eyes! Andy's day starts at 4.20am, when the alarm goes off. The working day kicks off at 5am, when Andy gets in and puts the finishing touches to the show.

Andy Comfort on Bridlington Beach

Andy is a journalist by trade, but started his working life as a modern languages teacher in Scotland. Having heard enough teenagers saying "Bonjour, je m'appelle Angus, j'habite a Falkirk," Andy took the plunge, left teaching and applied for a Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ journalist training scheme. After getting a rejection letter, Andy dusted himself down and applied again a year later, having worked in the meantime on a casual week-by-week basis as a features reporter for Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio Scotland. This time round, the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ saw sense (unless it was an administrative error!) and gave Andy a place on the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ's Trainee Journalist Scheme.

After training placements in Shropshire, Southampton and Grimsby, Andy got a job as Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Humberside's Grimsby reporter. After a stint in North East Lincolnshire, Andy moved across theΜύ bridge to become firstly a newsreader/producer, then a presenter. That was in 1995. Now, Andy edits and presents our flagship Breakfast Show from 6.30 til 9 weekday mornings and hosts our Sunday Brunch music and chat show from 10am-12pm.

Andy and Kate play football

Andy's a keen football fan. Having grown up in Ipswich, he supports the town's team and goes to as many games as he can. Andy also follows the exploits of our local teams, including Scunthorpe United, Hull City and Grimsby Town - in fact Andy's been a mascot for Grimsby Town at Blundell Park.

Andy traced his family's roots in Hull and Lincolnshire. Although his ancestors can be found in the Louth area and Andy's mum was born and bred in Hull. The family had trains in the blood - Andy's great grandfather and great, great grandfather worked as a Station Master in the Hull area. So, with a railway pedigree, why is our Andy such a transport jinx? Why do trains he's on break down, catch fire or end up somewhere they're not supposed to? Never travel with Andy.

Andy gets on his bike

Swimming is another of Andy's interests and he likes to unwind in the pool during his free time in the afternoon. He'd like to say he's a keen cyclist but a better description would be a lapsed cyclist.
