Not good Festival Survival GuideSo your tent's all packed, you've had your last shower and you're all ready for three days of music, mayhem and mud. But how to survive and get the best out of your weekend? Our Festival veterans give you the lowdown here.....  There was a moment at Carling Weekend Leeds Festival 2005 when the Raw Talent crew finally gave up on trying to get some kip ahead of their live broadcast and joined in the Festival madness. It was Four A.M Saturday morning and a band in a camper van opposite the Raw Talent tents got out a full P.A, guitars, amp and all and kicked off a live set. The bass was so loud it reverberated up through the ground making sleep impossible and in the end we just got up and joined in the party.... But if this is your first Festival, what can you expect and what are the essentials that should be in your back pack as you head off for the unknown? This lot have been there and seen it all. Read on.  Check your tent before you go "My top tip, check your tent before you go and make sure your phone is charged so you can keep in touch with your mates on site. Also, there are cashpoints on site at Leeds but the queue gets massive so head there as soon as the gates open if you need money for more beer. My favourite memory of working at Leeds was in 2005, our first broadcast from there. We were going for a wander in the middle of the night and our rigger Kris decided to fry up some bacon behind the broadcast van. There we were, eating bacon butties at 3AM, listening to the Festival hum. Great memories." "You should try and sleep at least once over the weekend, preferably on the first night so that you're ready to go for a full weekend's partying. Take wellies, whatever the forecast. Take your own loo roll in a plastic bag (don't ask - Ed) and put up your tent properly. Nothing worse that stumbling back in the middle of the night to the campsite and finding your tent has gone west in a force 6 gale"  Festival-goers arriving at Bramham Park "My best advice is to go with a big crowd. There's nothing better than camping with a huge load of mates and hanging out listening to music with them for the weekend. Oh, and take your own booze." "My top tip would be to take earplugs so you can get a bit of kip during the night. Having said that,ΜύΜύ I'm working at the Festival and I need some kip whereas the rest of you should be out enjoying yourselves all through the night so forget the earplugs! Instead, good waterproofs and something to sit on if it's wet. A friend of mind had a bin liner full of straw which he used as a seat during the terrible muddy Glasto 1997. When he left on the Sunday, people were offering him up to twenty quid for it which shows how desperate they were. Also, take some early morning food, biscuits, bananas, that sort of thing, plus a torch, good sleeping bag, baby wipes, and not too many clothes (you won't change them)"  Don't take too many clothes "I've never been to Leeds Festival and can't wait to play there this year. I've heard it's alot of fun, alot of laughs. My Festival tip? A bottle of whiskey in your back pack. Great to have something to drink late at night when the bars have closed"  Engineers John and Kris de-rig "My life saver last year was a black bin liner. I cut holes in it and made a jacket which went over the top of my leaking waterproof coat. We de-rigged in the pouring rain at midnight. Katy was singing to me and John as we wound in the muddy cable to keep our spirits up. She kept saying "we'll look back on this and laugh one day". She was right. I'd also say take a torch and boots that don't leak. Wellies are the best. They may not be the coolest thing to wear but you'll be glad of them. Most of all I love Leeds Festival for the camaraderie.
