Wednesday 8th August 2007, exactly one year since the first young peoples event on the beach proved to be huge success for all involved.

Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Blast, Creative Connexions and East Riding Youth Service all worked alongside youngsters from Christ Church Bridlington in the months leading up to the event.

Youngsters formed a committee, secured funding, organised bands, music workshops, rehearsals and lead the planning process of organising the Soundwaves 2007 event from start to finish.Μύ

The day would see ten bands each performing a twenty minute set.Μύ The age of each of the band members ranged form 13-19 years old.

The sun beamed down and glistened on the tranquil electric blue sea.ΜύThe beach had a strange Mediterranean feel to it, you could almostΜύ imagine a heady Ibiza culture. The small erected stage strutted off the promenade like a mini Glastonbury platform.

Young people happily mingled alongside holiday-makers and day-trippers lapping up the warm late summer sunshine.Μύ

Pop tunes belted out form the speakers and warmed up the expectant and excitable young crowd.

At 2.00pm, the day burst into life with a strong crescendo of electric chords and screaming vocals from Hull based band Fact is Fiction.Μύ

Matt, Dan James and Alex belted out tunes that whipped the growing crowd into a sand dance frenzy.Μύ

Festival revellers

"These are brilliant and so talented" said Craig, 14 from Bridlington. "I've listened and seen there web page put never heard them live... Awesome."

The line up continued with young bands from across the region entertaining and thrilling the growing crowds.Μύ

Persist, Blockade of Rivals, Parkmoor, Sale Agreed, Tauro, Mermaids in the Basement, AWOL, Ska Band 101, We Don't Tip and finally at 8pm, Broken Secrets brought the curtain down as the summer sun still glowed on the crowd.

Tina, Clare, Lea and Emma travelled from Scarborough to the event: "We stumbled upon it last year while with my parents for a day out, we had such a great day we decided to come back for more this year."

Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Blast also offered free music taster workshops to those who were keen to follow in the footsteps of the young performers.Μύ
