Your Memories

I remember getting very angry and writing to the ΒιΆΉΤΌΕΔ to complain when you pulled an addition of β€˜If you think you have problems’ a radio counselling programme that covered Lesbian relationships because the programme was to go out on a Sunday - I think Mary Whitehouse had been meddling. When it did go out I listened carefully as there was nothing similar on the radio. That was probably 1975 - my letter may still be in your archive going yellow.

No mention of the brilliant Christopher Price in the ΒιΆΉΤΌΕΔ LGBTQ+ timeline - surely a glaring ommision? Tragic loss for the ΒιΆΉΤΌΕΔ and all of us.

An absolute game changer was Fiona and Lisa's relationship on Pobol y Cwm, the Welsh language soap opera produced by the ΒιΆΉΤΌΕΔ. The first same sex kiss between the two characters was aired in 1997, years before many English soap operas attempted anything similar. It was ground-breaking and helped normalise LGBTQ stories for a Welsh audience. It set a bit of a trend too, by now over 20 years later, out of a cast of 37 regular characters 7 are LGBTQ, around 19%!!
