THE STEWART SOCIETY

A website dedicated to the people, places and historical events of the Stewart dynasty. There’s a guide to Stewart heraldry and lots of detail on important figures. Also, there's informative guide to their jewels and precious object, and suggestions for places to visit . If you’re particularly interested in the society you can also keep up to date with its news and events, and find out how to join.

THE BRITISH MONARCHY

The official royal family website offers in-depth historical information on the Scottish Crown, from the early Scottish monarchs to the Jacobite claimants. Each story is accompanied by stunning portraits from the Royal Collection and you can trace the whole royal family tree through to the present day. In addition, there’s a feature on Holyrood Palace and you can follow the palace’s history from its first residents through to its role today.

JOHN KNOX
Historic Church Documents has the original text for many important ecclesiastical documents throughout history. This sample is The History of the Reformation of Religion as written by John Knox. Chapter 1 of book 4, 1561-1564 , covering Mary, Queen of Scots' meeting with Knox at Holyrood on 26th August 1561.

ELECTRONIC TEXT CENTER
From the University of Virginia Library, this is a great resource for finding old texts online and for free. Two of Scotland's greatest Makars, William Dunbar and Robert Henryson, are well represented here for those who wish to pursue late medieval and Renaissance poetry from Scotland.
