The Friends of The Courtyard have announced that the theatre is setting up a bursary scheme in the name of the venue’s founding artistic director.

The scheme will help Youth Theatre members accepted into a drama college or school to pursue a course that could lead to a career in the performing arts.

The Jonathan Stone Bursary will be offered annually and is intended for the purchase of books or other items essential for a course relating to the performing arts.

Howard Evans, Chairman of The Friends of The Courtyard, says the bursary is a fitting tribute to Jonathon Stone's work in the area.

"The bursary is a recognition of the high esteem in which Mr Stone is held by our members.

"Of all his achievements, his work with The Courtyard Community Company and Youth Theatre has delighted us most.

"I understand that commitment is now paying dividends: Peter Corbett, the young local actor who shone so brightly in The Courtyard’s first ever production, Cabaret, returns to The Courtyard this June for his first professional stage engagement – as Billy in The Rise And Fall Of Little Voice.’

"I hope this bursary will help aspiring young actors like Peter find success in their chosen career."
