The distinctive clock tower in near Tank Quarry in North Malvern

The Malvern stone was quarried in the 19th and 20th centuries and used for house and road building.

There was a public outcry in the 1930's when people feared North Hill could be destroyed by quarrying.

The writer George Bernard Shaw was so outraged about the quarrying he wrote to the Times warning the Malvern Hills were in danger of becoming the Malvern flats.
