Terry James : Leader, Herefordshire Council.

The consortium, led by Cardiff-based DTZ Pieda Consulting, has been chosen to formulate a plan for the redevelopment of the 100-acre site which includes the home of Hereford United and the cattle market.

The plan, which should be completed by the summer, will outline proposals to reshape the city's landscape.

The city council hopes this will bring new jobs and leisure facilities to the heart of Hereford.

The Β£1/4 million contract has been awarded to the consortium of consultants:

  • DTZ – Project Managers, planning, economic and commercial property advisors.
  • Macgregor Smith/Stubbs Rich - master planners and urban design.
  • Arup – transport and engineering.
  • John Turner & Co - local property agents.
  • Davis Langdon-Everest - quantity surveyors.
  • PPS – public consultation specialists.
The work is being jointly funded by Herefordshire Council and Advantage West Midlands.

Leisure quarter

The leader of Herefordshire Council, Terry James, believes this is a key moment for the city:

"This is a fantastic opportunity for the city and an opportunity for us to leave a lasting legacy which will benefit future generations.

"This is a key area in the heart of Hereford and the plans will give us an unrepeatable opportunity to breathe new life into the area."

The revitalised area will need to lock into the rest of the city and could include new civic quarters to provide a new home for Herefordshire Council and the police, a new leisure quarter - based on the Edgar Street football ground and the Courtyard Theatre for the Arts - options for a new city library and a new craft and learning quarter.

"The potential to restore the city's three historic canal basins and provide new city centre homes will also be explored in detail." added Cllr James.
