Mr Adam Munthe, chairman of the Pennington Mellor Munthe Trust says:

"We have transformed a derelict building into a simple but characterful venue.

"The Great Barn will play a positive role in the development of the arts locally, offering a performance space for visiting artistes and voluntary organisations".

Blanca Rey-Surman, education and cultural events manager says:

"A multipurpose venue with professional sound, light and staging facilities is a great asset for the community.

"The Great Barn is already being used for educational activities; recently we hosted a highly successful Shakespeare workshop, with children from local primary schools.

"When not being used for cultural and educational activities, the barn will be available for suitable private functions".

This year Hellens House will run a landscape painting weekend for adults, a series of storytelling days for primary schools through June.

There will also be a workshop for teachers on Materials and Painting Techniques by Philippa Abrahams, artist, conservator and art/science expert on July 1st and 2nd.

Other events already booked at Hellens include a midsummer night soiree with poetry, champagne and strawberries, organised by The Friends of The Dymock Poets, a summer play with The Melting Pot Company presenting Othello in August, and an autumn concert directed by Adrian Partington in October.
