Worcester's rangers are promoting an 'open house' wildlife photo competition as part of a Family Fun Day in Warndon Woodlands on April 24th.

They're on the lookout for entries for judging by a team of Camera Club experts prior to the big day - with prizes for the winners in three categories as well as a special Rangers' Prize.

"As its title 'Wild in Worcester' suggests, we're looking for photographs of wildlife in Worcester.

"That can mean wild plants, animals, birds, landscapes or a combination of them all, and if the picture was taken on a site managed by the Wildlife Rangers or in one of the City's formal parks, it can also be entered for the Ranger's Prize" Ranger Richard Clarke commented this week.

Judging

He added that judges will also be looking for images that best demonstrate the co-existence of nature and the built environment in the City and that all entries must have been taken within the City's boundaries - though, he said, they can be colour, monochrome and shot on film or digital.

"Aside from prizes, entrants can also expect to see their work on show in various promotions we'll be planning to promote the City's wildlife and green spaces throughout the year" he said.

Winners in three categories - under 12, 12-17 and 18-plus - will be chosen by members of Worcester Camera Club who will be linking with the Rangers team to decide the overall winner of the special Rangers' Prize.

"Aside from being a useful exercise in terms of prizes and prestige, the competition is also a way to encourage more people into local nature reserves and green open spaces where they might not normally venture".

Details and conditions of entry are available from the Rangers desk on (01905) 722328.
