The
event is simply titled βThe female formβ and brings a remarkable
collection of 20 sculptural ceramics.
The
pieces are a quirky look at the female form.
Karen
uses black earthenware which is overfired to give it lustre.
She
also uses paper clay which is fired in an electric kiln and then
smoke fired. Iron oxide is utilised on some of the pieces to give
added colour.
"The
pieces are all individual. Although
I create them, they mean different things to different people.
"One
person will see beauty another believe it to be grotesque. They
reflect moods that we all experience at different times in our lives".
The
diversity of the female form is reflected in these pieces and they
are unlike many stereotypical images.
"No
airbrushes are used to create these forms - just like real life!"
Karen
trained at the Putney School of Art and her pieces are in private
collections across Europe and Canada.
Steve
Allen of the bohemia gallery said "Karen has a fantastic unique
take on the female form demonstrated so vividly in her work, we
are thrilled to have it on display, and the positive reaction it
has received".
The
gallery is open from 10am six days a week and by appointment on
evenings and weekends.
