The
Local Life Museum on Friar Street, is to close which means that
artefacts would have to be stored elsewhere, possibly under lock
and key.
Plans
are part of a package from the City Council to cut a million pounds
from the budget.
Officials
want to consolidate three museums into two. The
present exhibits at the museum will be rehoused at the Commandery
and Foregate Street museum.
The
Museum of Local Life was set up in the 1970s. It looks into the
history of Worcester during the past 200 years, although the history
of the museum building goes back much further.
The
museum shows displays about the life of the city, and exhibitions
are found in every room.
The
Tudor house has been a home, a workshop for weavers, cloth makers,
tailors, a baker and a painter.
Some
of the people who lived there brewed ale, so for over 200 years
part of the building was used as a brewing house and an inn.
Exhibits
will be stored at the venue after it closes and Tim Bridges, Collections
Manager at the City Museum says he hopes people will take a final
chance to see the displays.
