Nominations from all over the county are welcome so we can find the Gloucestershire people who are great exponents of what can be accomplished in later life.

One of the previous winners was 86 year old Martin Kelly from Cheltenham; Martin continues to teach Tai Chi/Qi Gong and Reiki Healing and over many years has helped hundreds, if not thousands, of people of all ages.

Martin said "it is not about winning for me, it is about spreading the gospel about what I do and the awareness, it is about helping other people. The classes are fun, we don't stand on ceremony."

Lunch club

For older people, T'ai chi is one of the proven physical activities that reduces the risk of falling and increase the overall sense of health and wellbeing.

Another winner stated that the award that she won that came from the people with which she works on a daily basis meant more to her than her MBE.

Dora Matthews from the Forest of Dean who is over 80 herself cooks regularly for the Dr Charley's lunch club that has over 70 members.

She was nominated by a member of the group as a person that should be recognised for the contribution that she makes.

Awards

The 2008 awards ceremony will be held as part of the Gloucestershire Full of Life event that will take place on Thursday 25 September at Kingsholm Stadium, home of Gloucester Rugby.
