Barbecuing in the rain

Flood crisis, water shortages and...barbecues? Meet one butcher from Longlevens who won't let the weather rain on his patio parade.

Could Longlevens, in Gloucester, be the flood barbecue capital of the county? Maybe!

We believe we've found one butcher who not only ignores the floods with a sizzle outside, but is willing to encourage others to follow suit.

As many in the county focus attention on collecting and conserving water, we've heard Longlevens butcher, Nick Brown, keeps a smile on his face with a barbecue!

Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Gloucestershire's Chris Sandys stepped out of the rain and into Nick's butchers to see if the rumours were true.

BBQ'ing breakfast

It doesn't even have to be the traditional evening occasion either, for since the July floods took hold, Nick has barbecue'd breakfast as well!

For the perfect spread, Nick says you can just about barbecue anything:

"Medium-soggy burgers, sausages always go well, pork tenderloin, chicken fillet, marinated pork chops"

...and for breakfast?

"Eggs, bacon, black pudding - outside, underneath an awning - use a frying pan the same as you'd use your cooker".

Fellow butcher, Jim, says barbecuing is common practice for residents of Longlevens, especially with the recent floods:

"We've had some quite big orders from people planning on having barbecues or street parties. Longlevens is the BBQ capital of Britain I should think.

For those dodging the showers and shopping for meat, will they take the advice and bring out the BBQ later today?

It appears not!

"The butcher here's mad enough to do anything! It's good though, he's always a laugh - if you want to brighten yourself up, come to Nick's."

...said one customer who left happy, but not planning on following suit. Although butcher Jim may disagree.

"They take it very seriously around here - professionals!"
