Video Nation: Take Part!

Video Nation Gloucestershire reflects the everyday lives of people in all its rich diversity. If you're interested in taking part and shooting your own short film, read on.

The Video Nation project is really simple - it enables people to produce a short film (around two to three minutes long) for the web.

Qasim Ahmed

Qasim Ahmed made a film about his journey

Some of the films feed into local radio programmes and regional TV and occassionally are even included in television documentaries.

The aim is to give you the opportunity to make a short film for one of many subjects other parts of the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ will be covering in the coming months.

Here in Gloucestershire we've already filmed hundreds of short films that cover such wide ranging topics as running, religion, revising, haunted houses, acting - the list just goes on and on.

In its essence, Video Nation is a slice of your life captured on film...and we'd love YOUR stories.

You don't have to be a technical expert just have a story to tell.ΜύWe will give you all the help you need to make the film.Μύ

Video Nation

We'd love you to get in touch about these subjects:

The Wired Generation:

Are you between the age of 12 and 21? How do you reckon your behaviour has changed over the last ten years? We'd love you to share your experiences and stories in a Video Nation film. Maybe you're a little older and have much to say yourself - please feel free to get in touch as well.

Made in England:

Are you a local artist, sculptor, musician, dancer, film-maker, graffiti artists etc? We want you in a Video Nation film looking at how your art relates to England. What does that mean? Well we want to show how your work responds to the English landscape, people and society.Μύ

25th Anniversary of Miner's Strike:

What are your memories of the strikes in the eighties? We want to create some Video Nation films looking at the legacy left behind by the mining industry. If you have any personal experience, we'd love to share your memories on film.

My Media:

To celebrate the fifteenth anniversary of Video Nation, we want to explore your stories of how you use the media to relate to the world around you. Do you avoid email at all costs? Maybe you don't have a television. Share your story in a Video Nation film.ΜύΜύ

Fear of Flying:

What’s your fear? Many people start to get nervous when entering a plane, whether a mild fear of takeoff or landing, or worse. However light or serious, let us tell your story in a Video Nation film.

Don't worry, you don't have to be technically minded where filming is concerned because your local production team in Gloucestershire will provide all the training and advice you need to film successfully.

The local team also edits your tapes but control is still yours - if you are not happy about a finished video, you can suggest changes or choose not to have it shown. That way you are free to shoot first, decide later.

Jo Dobson and artist

The Dobson's made a film about their passion

Video Nation is a fantastic opportunity to share your views and experiences with others, to talk directly to both local and national audiences and to add your videos to the growing online archive of everyday life.

We've had films on a diverse range of subjects - here's a very small selection of some of the films in our archive:

So do you live in Gloucestershire? And are you interested in taking part in Video Nation? Why not get in touch with us using the form below and we'll get back to you as soon as possible.
