This simple, tangy apple sauce takes no time to make and freezes brilliantly. Fantastic with roast pork, but also great on pancakes or latkes.
Ingredients
- apples: 225g/8oz cooking apples, peeled, cored and chopped
- lemon: ½ lemon, zest only
- 2 tbsp water
- butter: 15²µ/½´Ç³ú butter
- caster sugar: 1 tsp caster sugar
Method
Put the apples in a saucepan with the lemon zest and water. Cover and cook over a low heat until they are soft and mushy.
Take off the heat and beat in the butter and the sugar. Cool.
Recipe tips
Use Bramley apples that will cook down to a fluffy sauce and taste as you go to get the right balance of sweet and tartness.
