Chetna Makan

Born in India, Chetna moved to the UK in 2004. She used baking as a way of embracing life in the UK and has thrown herself into learning new skills, combining her mum’s traditional recipes and flavours with British bakes when she can. She has always been interested in food and cooking and has been greatly inspired by her mum’s cooking.

Chetna appeared in the 2014 series of the Great British Bake Off. Soon after the show, she started work on her first book, The Cardamom Trail, which was all about Indian flavours in some very western bakes. Her second book, Chai, Chaat and Chutney, is about Indian street food, written after intensive research into India’s most delicious street food. Her third book Chetna’s Healthy Indian is all about the food she cooks at home for her family. It is about the quick, delicious and healthy recipes they enjoy to balance out all the cakes she bakes.
