IN A NUTSHELL...
The Story: Low budget adaptation of the novel by John Braine (best known for 50s kitchen sink drama Room At The Top). "Passions erupt in 1960s Yorkshire," promises the poster for the movie, which stars Jason Merrells (Cutting It) as a quiet, shy man who falls for the local librarian (Mairead Carty).
Useless Fact: Director Steven Woodcock's early experiences in the film business were as a special-effects modelmaker and designer. You can see his handiwork in the Gerry Anderson TV series Terrahawks.
THE REVIEWS...
"The spirit of the kitchen-sink films is self-consciously evoked in this adaptation of John Braine's novel... unfortunately the plodding pace means it doesn't get anywhere near Room At The Top" (2/5)
