Saawan (The Love Season) (2006)
12aContains moderate violence

It's common for established actors to repay directors years later for giving them their lucky break. This is apparently the reason behind Salman Khan's appearance in Saawan Kumaar's latest drama, Saawan. But were the Bollywood superstar to foresee the disaster he had committed to, he ironically would never have agreed to play the modern day Nostradamus character in this preposterous film about a man who predicts a dark future for a pair of young lovers.

When Mumbai residents Raj (Kapil Jhaveri) and Kajal (Saloni Aswani) meet and fall in love in Cape Town, little do they realise a few months later their dreams of marriage will be shattered by the appearance of Saawan (Khan), a strange man who saves Kajal from an accident and correctly predicts the death of her father. Spurred on by curiosity Kajal persuades him to forecast her future only to find out she has only few days left to live herself! Thus the story of the film unwinds against a background of two conflicting beliefs - destiny and coincidence.

"A TOTALLY UNBELIEVABLE FILM"

Having tackled intense dramas wonderfully in the past with films like Souten and Sanam Bewafa, sadly veteran Kumar is not on form with Saawan and proves interesting ideas don't necessarily result in interesting films. The paper thin plot starts off as a love story with the hero and heroine romancing in the sun for the first half of the film, only for Khan to enter and drop the psychic bombshell. But instead of being depressed the young couple sing a few more songs before dealing with the impending death. The result is a totally unbelievable film that deserved to go straight to DVD.
