Selma Blair started her career in TV and starred in a number of independent films. She landed her first major movie role in the thriller "Brown's Requiem", before appearing in "Cruel Intentions". She's a familiar face in teen movies, appearing in "Legally Blonde" and now "A Guy Thing", opposite Jason Lee.
Why did you choose this role?
This was the first movie I made after making the decision to grow up a bit on film, and this was the perfect chance. I'd worked with Julia before. She's someone I'm friends with and I'm really comfortable with. So it was enough of the same audience that I have - the adolescent audience - but I'm definitely a woman in this. I wear high heels, for heaven's sake! And I'm about to get married. It was a situational comedy that had a great ensemble and I thought it was sophisticated and not too raunchy. I'd come from "The Sweetest Thing", which I loved but which was definitely a bit out there, so this was a good remedy for that.
Do you worry about being typecast?
Not really. I think I'm under the radar enough where I don't think I'm typecast as anything yet, so I'm pretty free and clear. I don't have any worries about that. I do turn down things that I feel aren't right for me, like when it's some kind of adolescent thing that might typecast me, but I'm not worried about it.
This is about "a guy thing". Is there "a girl thing"?
This is also about a girl thing. A wedding is such a girl thing. Although we go "Oh, she wants a big ring, a big wedding, how tacky", we all want one. I want one!
