Alexa Vega and Daryl Sabara

Spy Kids 2: The Island of Lost Dreams

Interviewed by Alec Cawthorne

What was it like making this sequel so soon after the first film?

Alexa: It was really exciting. We filmed in Austin, Texas, first and then we went to Costa Rica, which was so beautiful - monkeys everywhere! It was like a filming vacation, just a big family reunion.

How physically demanding is the film?

Daryl: Well, for "Spy Kids 2", I trained in Junior Lifeguards and did gymnastics. But I have been doing ballet for a long time and tae kwon do, and all of that helps a lot.

Did director Robert Rodriguez ever ask you to do something that was too hard?

Daryl: No. It's just so much fun doing these stunts and all that stuff. And my ballet and tae kwon do really help.

What's your favourite gadget this time around?

Alexa: The spider climbers and Gerti Giggles' hair - I love the flying helicopter on her hair!

Daryl: My favorite gadget was R.A.L.P.H. (Robotic Arachnid Lithium Photo Helper). I love him because he's so tiny - he can do everything from tying a bow tie to using his hi-definition camera to spy for you.
