Lara Flynn Boyle

Men in Black II

Interviewed by Alec Cawthorne

What was the attraction of this movie?

It was such a treat to be the bad girl and to look the way I did in the film! To come on this huge blockbuster, ride on their coat-tails, it's dynamite. A dream experience! At first I thought "a sci-fi movie... that's a guy movie." Then I saw the uniqueness of the script. And anything Tommy Lee Jones is in, well, it's dynamite. Plus I'd worked with Will Smith before in "Where the Day Takes You" so that was nice.

Tell us about Serleena, the alien you play.

She morphs into a Victoria's Secret model! I didn't even have to break a sweat. The only work I really had to do was to feel confident and trust that it would all look cool someday. The sets are amazing to look at in the first place but most of it was green screen so you just have to have an imagination. Then I had some really great outfits. Not a wardrobe that really lent itself to bathroom use though! That was what lunchtime was for basically - to go to the bathroom.

There's one scene that pokes fun at your skinniness. Why did you do that?

With Barry Sonnenfeld directing I knew I was being taken care of so why not? I thought it was a great opportunity for us to be able to poke fun at it, to have a sense of humour about it.
