Nuns on the Run DVD (1990)

The last movie to be made by Handmade Films (in its original form), "Nuns on the Run" is a light Carry On-style comedy with a few moments of mirth for those easily tickled by the sight of grown men in nuns' uniforms.

TECHNICAL FEATURES

Picture The transfer of this film to disc is reasonable, if occasionally a little soft, but shouldn't present any problems for most.

Sound In today's consumer society, it's choice we demand and by golly Anchor Bay are keen to offer us not only the original 2.0 stereo mix, but a new 5.1 mix too. The latter was our preferred choice, and while you might want to turn down your rear speakers a little, the bass support for the Yello music score works very well.

SPECIAL FEATURES

Audio Commentary Director Jonathan Lynn revisits a film that he's obviously quite pleased with. As he reveals, "It was very hard to make this film for the money we had." The budget was £3 million and as such Lynn could only afford one crane shot in the movie, which puts him on a par with the makers of "House" - who also discuss having only one crane shot on that Anchor Bay DVD release. Spooky, or a sad thing to know? You decide! Back to Lynn, and he's chatting away about the story structure, technical detail, and doesn't hold back on pointing out budgetary constraints that you might otherwise not have noticed. It's pleasant enough, but it helps if you like the film.
