Tigerland DVD (2001)

Joel Schumacher stunned us all with "Tigerland", a Vietnam war movie that very nearly makes up for "Batman & Robin", and is now out on a low-key but interesting DVD release.

TECHNICAL FEATURES

Picture Shot on digital video, there's a grainy veneer to this film, tinted with garish yellows and greens that transfers well to disc, with a textured, raw finish.

Sound This DVD boasts a beautifully engineered 5.1 sound mix that's close and claustrophobic in detail, adding a further oppressive layer to the movie.

SPECIAL FEATURES

Audio Commentary Director Joel Schumacher lends his thoughts in a commentary that adds an historical context to the film's plot, and provides a detailed analysis of the production. With 28 days to shoot, Schumacher seems proud to report that there were no swanky trailers, star entourages, or even chairs to sit on in this low-budget movie.

Casting Session with Colin Farrell Irishman Farrell is the current hot sizzle on the actors' circuit, and it's not hard to see why in these three extracts from his audition for the film. As is often the case, the person reading the other lines is rubbish, but Colin isn't fazed and stays locked in character.

Additional Special Features Three-minute featurette, trailer, and TV spots.
