The Parole Officer DVD (2001)

Steve Coogan is "The Parole Officer", now reporting for duty in a surprisingly sombre DVD release.

TECHNICAL FEATURES

Picture No complaints here. Why not try below in Sound?

Sound Nope, all fine here too. The 5.1 mix isn't anything crazy in terms of effects, but there's ample bass support for the music.

SPECIAL FEATURES

Audio Commentary Coogan sits in for a remarkably dry session, along with the director, co-writer, and producer. There's chat about deleted scenes, shooting order, and re-shoots in what's more of a diagnostic report than an entertaining chat about the movie.

Making of Featurette Coogan is clearly serious about what he does, and that's no doubt earned him his success so far but he, along with the other cast and crew, could have lightened up a bit for these interviews. The serious analysis of what is an amiable but undeniably slight comedy is quite unnerving.

Deleted Scenes Six scenes for your earnest dissection, accompanied by an optional commentary that sounds like it was recorded in a biscuit tin. Dull scenes, dull chat.

Additional Special Features The main animated menu scheme, voiced by Coogan, is clever and amusing but the special features that lie beneath are sensationally dull. Technically the disc is good though, so you can at least enjoy the movie. Also included is a trailer and an Atomic Kitten music video.
