With "Out of Sight", Steven Soderbergh returns to cracking form with a sharp, funny, classy movie that leaves a wry grin on your face long after the credits roll.
George Clooney plays Jack Foley, a dedicated bank robber who never quite manages to rob the bank and get away with it. Landed in prison for the umpteenth time, Foley decides to bust out with the help of long time buddy, Buddy (Ving Rhames). But these things never go to plan and Jack is forced to kidnap Federal Marshall, Karen Sisco (Jennifer Lopez), who stumbles upon their escape. Bundled in the boot of a car together while Buddy drives them to safety, the chemistry between sexy Sisco and smooth talking Foley sparks off the best Elmore Leonard adaptation to date.
Watching Clooney give his breakthrough performance is a delight to behold and Lopez is perfect as a kick ass marshall with a penchant for the very men she’s suppose to put behind bars.
"Out of Sight" puts Soderbergh firmly back on the map as a force to be reckoned with, as his follow ups, "Erin Brockovich" and "Traffic", have proved. The script is spoton, with great dialogue shared equally among the leads and supporting cast that captures Leonard's comedy crime world perfectly. The film floats seamlessly from Foley’s prison past to present day and has a love scene that intercuts between bar and bedroom until you think the chemistry is sure to cause someone an injury.
