A typically tightly-woven Hitchcock plot of twists and intrigue unravels into a showcase denouement atop the Statue of Liberty in this thrilling wartime movie. Fans will likely be delighted with the new DVD release this classic film gets.
Picture quality is good, especially as the print appears to be in good shape. The black and white contrast is sharp, and the image often impresses.
The 2.0 mono mix copes very well with the occasionally strident music and doesn't distort as so often happens with older films of this type.
Any extra features for a movie of this age are welcome so what's on offer is a real treat. A 35-minute documentary - including interviews with actor Norman Lloyd and associate art director Robert Boyle - is of chief interest. Both have plenty of memories, and while they divulge anecdotes, there's a feast of behind-the-scenes stills to look at.
Boyle worked on the storyboards for Hitch and they're included as a featurette about the Statue of Liberty sequence. Also available are sketches from Hitchcock and a trailer on this fine release.
