Μύ If there's ever a film where a loss of detail in transfer to disc might occasionally be appreciated, it's the vomit-inducing "Day of the Dead".
Perhaps that thought crossed the minds at Arrow Films, as this is not an anamorphic DVD (a process which carries extra coding to create a more detailed picture on a widescreen TV). Nevertheless this remains a reasonably clear transfer with strong colour balance and very little bleed. The dark blue-lit cave scenes towards the end don't look too good, but you're more likely to be squirming at the ripping flesh to notice.
The 2.0 sound mix offers little in the way of stereo steering, but it's clear and free of distortion.
Extra features include a small photo gallery, trailers for the "Living Dead" trilogy, and biographies of director George A Romero and gore guru Tom Savini. Of most interest is a 20-minute behind-the-scenes documentary packed with amusing footage. You'll meet the people who cast the crowd zombies and then do their make up. Both Romero and Savini pitch in with the odd comment on what looks to be an efficient film shoot.
