American Gigolo DVD (1980)

Richard Gere plays cool, while everyone around him goes into a lusty frenzy as "American Gigolo" tantalises on DVD.

The picture quality is a touch grubby at the beginning, and occasionally a little soft and grainy, but it otherwise settles down to an acceptable transfer.

The new 5.1 sound mix really goes to town on Georgio Moroder's classic soundtrack. The opening variation on his "Call Me" collaboration with Debbie Harry provides for a lot of fun, swapping beats between the rears as the melody hits the front speakers. A few Foley effects enhance the mood of the movie, but otherwise just sit back and enjoy the electronic music heaven.

A trailer is the only extra feature on the disc. It's worth a look though, if only to admire the slick pace of it when compared to others of the time.
