Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down! DVD (1990)

"Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down" certainly challenges the term 'black comedy' as this unflinching movie unfurls a tale of lust, pain, and explicit sexuality. Seductively shot, it looks good on a DVD that offers the bare minimum to please.

Bright arresting colours strike through in a vibrant picture transfer to disc. The movie looks both fresh and luscious.

The disappointment lies with the 2.0 sound mix, which is resolutely mono. There's an Ennio Morricone score that desperately needs promoting at least to stereo, and as a modern provocative movie it would no doubt benefit from a few atmospheric effects. Unfortunately the sound sticks firmly to the centre speaker, although to be fair it's both strong and clear.

Apart from a trailer, that's your lot with this disc. The picture transfer is a pleasure but the rest is a little disappointing given Anchor Bay's otherwise excellent release record.
