"For Your Eyes Only" is the 12th and one of the most enjoyable of the Bond series. The superb production values are showcased beautifully on a DVD that also offers an in-depth look behind the scenes.
There's plenty to impress on this disc, but the picture quality is the most stunning of all. The glamorous locations look immaculate in a transfer that is razor sharp in definition and colour balance.
The all-new 5.1 sound mix is creatively directed, with the musical score playing making full use of all the speakers, while any Foley effects now have clear direction and added bass for those necessary explosions.
In terms of extras, it's hard to imagine what more you could ask for. A lot of time and effort has been put into obtaining interviews with the original cast and crew. These are used for a fascinating "making of" documentary and the two feature length commentaries.
Both commentaries are well worth listening to and have a structure that's missing from most others. Director John Glen talks extensively on how all the various crew came together, and of the 10 minutes needed every day just to allow for all of Roger Moore's practical jokes on set.
Some of his japery is available to view in the 15 stills galleries on the disc. Each is clearly titled and offers plenty of interesting material, with the foreign advertising campaigns well worth a look.
There really is nothing missing from a DVD that is a dream package for any fan of this movie.
