Next Friday DVD (2000)

"Next Friday" is the unremarkable sequel to the underwhelming comedy "Friday" (1995). The first film was all about Ice Cube sitting on a porch; this one is all about him hitting the 'burbs. Still, it looks fine on DVD.

This latest insight into the life of Craig Jones (Cube) sees him retreat to the leafy suburbs from his busy existence in South Central. Crazily enough though he finds himself in even more trouble, especially when he starts chasing a beautiful girl. She turns out to be the sister of the local gang leader. Events lend this film a slightly faster pace although the humour is still a little weak.

Fans of the Cube will want to have a look at this disc as it features not only new songs by him but also from his old band NWA. As is standard with any rap music, it's bass-heavy and this DVD provides plenty of low sonic beats for your sub woofer to wrestle and tame.

The picture quality brings out the best of the LA sun-kissed settings in a good anamorphic transfer.

And if you don't recognise most of the talent in this film then check out the detailed biographies on the disc.
