The Bachelor DVD (1999)

There's nothing like a joy-filled comedy romance to lift your mood when you're feeling a little grumpy. Although when the leading man is devoid of any charisma, it's a little harder to stomach even if it comes on a great transfer to DVD.

Handily enough the DVD comes with the trailer, which allows you to see what the film should be like - bright, breezy and fun. Watch the film though and you have to endure Chris O'Donnell playing a stupifyingly lame individual, whose dullness and rank insensitivity bury any goodwill that the film has to offer. Despite a talented supporting cast including Renée Zellweger, an amusing idea just becomes irritating.

As for the DVD - it's fine! The picture is great. The 5.1 track splits the jazz score very nicely around the speakers and the fanfares coming out of the rears is a nice touch.

Limited extras on the disc include filmographies of the cast and crew. A glance at Mr O'Donnell's CV lists his major award so far as the "NATO/Sho West Male Star of Tomorrow 1994".
