Scary Movie (2000)
18

It would not be surprising if you found the opening scenes of the Wayans Brothers' "Scary Movie" somewhat familiar - they are. A beautiful high school student is brutally murdered, leaving her friends wondering about the killer amongst them. Our heroine, Cindy (Anna Faris), and her closest (and mainly clueless) friends are left to try and survive the killing spree, assisted by the local police and pursued by television reporter Gail Hailstorm.

A study in bad taste, it is a cross between "There's Something About Mary" and "Scream", with a few other influences too. The humour crosses every boundary possible: age, race or gender - there are no limits. The laughs vary from hitting you right in the face, to being surprisingly subtle. But either way they fly fast and furious, so much so that you can be left only just grasping the last gag. If, however, the humour does not appeal to you, you can pass the time by spotting the many other film references particularly notable take-offs being "The Blair Witch Project" and "The Matrix".

This is not a film for the faint-hearted, it is an exercise in ribald humour, both scripted and visual, which will keep you laughing from start to finish. While the movie itself is far from scary, The Wayans Brothers' minds certainly are.
