About this event
Join musicians from the Â鶹ԼÅÄ Concert Orchestra at Nottingham Trent University Hall for this special performance of Wynton Marsalis’s A Fiddler’s Tale.
The concert will be conducted by Martyn Brabbins and narrated by Clarke Peters (*The Wire*, Spike Lee's Da 5 Bloods). Featuring violin, double bass, clarinet, bassoon, cornet, trombone and percussion, Marsalis’s masterpiece is a retelling of Stravinsky’s The Solider’s Tale (L'Histoire du soldat).
Igor Stravinsky's iconic work L’Histoire du soldat is based on the eternal story of a young man who sells his soul to the devil, achieving fame and fortune, but losing everything when the devil calls in the debt. Wynton Marsalis's A Fiddler's Tale retains the outline of Stravinsky's scenario, but updates the action to the present for a parable involving the devil, corruption and the concept of shame.
Recorded for future broadcast on Â鶹ԼÅÄ Radio 3.
