Praised for a 鈥榬adiant鈥� performance in Handel鈥檚 Theodora at the 2018 Proms, soprano Louise Alder returns to give a recital of songs from across Europe, including Lieder by both Mendelssohn and his sister Fanny Hensel, and songs by Rossini and Chopin.

About This Event

As we reach the 19th century in our Monday-lunchtime survey of music spanning over 800 years, soprano Louis Alder returns, with pianist Gary Matthewman, for a solo recital of songs from across Europe, including Lieder by Schubert, and by both Mendelssohn and his sister Fanny (published under her married name of Hensel), whose final song, 鈥楤ergeslust鈥� 鈥� completed just a day before her death at the age of only 41 鈥� tempers joy with a poignant ending.

The many facets of love are exposed in Felix Mendelssohn鈥檚鈥楧er Mond鈥� and 鈥楴eue Liebe鈥�, as well as in Chopin鈥檚鈥楽liczny ch艂opiec鈥� (Handsome Lad) and songs by Liszt and Rossini.
