Mozart’s classical masterpiece, his Symphony No. 41, the last symphony he ever wrote, is abundant with joyful, passionate and intensely melodic tunes, which is perhaps the reason for its enduring popularity.

For many years it was known as ‘the symphony with the fugal finale’ due to its exhilarating flood of melodic ideas flying around to create a truly astounding contrapuntal bravado. Yet nowadays it is better known by its expressive nickname, ‘Jupiter’, which it received in around 1820, which better portrays its lofty ambition, grace and drama.
