About This Event

Human ‘creatures’ and statues brought to life take centre stage in Beethoven’s short, brilliant overture to his only ballet score, whilst creatures of an altogether fantastical kind prowl through Mason Bates’ vivid setting of Jorge Luis Borges’ psychedelic bestiary Anthology of Fantastic Zoology.

The Creatures of Prometheus retells a classic myth in painterly, atmospheric detail and is matched for sonic imagination by the Bates’s piece, whose sequence of short movements presents a vibrant musical bestiary of extraordinary creatures.

Following his exciting debut with the Â鶹ԼÅÄSO at the 2017 Â鶹ԼÅÄ Proms, star American pianist Jeremy Denk returns as soloist in Beethoven’s mighty Emperor Piano Concerto. Rising star conductor Cristian Macelaru makes his debut with the orchestra.
