Concert Information

Internationally renowned conductor HK Gruber leads the leads the Â鶹ԼÅÄ Philharmonic in an evening concert at MediaCityUK.

The orchestra’s former Conductor / Composer in Association, will be joined by its new Composer in Association, Mark Simpson, performing Lindberg’s Clarinet Concerto.

Stravinsky’s folk-inspired, Four Norwegian Moods opens the concert. Although composed in Hollywood, Stravinsky was very much inspired by the Norwegian folk tradition and borrowed themes from Norwegian folk songs, which he took from a book his wife had collected in L.A.

The Scandinavian theme continues with Magnus Lindberg’s Clarinet Concerto. Performed by Mark Simpson, this piece with its folk-like melody and rich orchestration is one of the composers most popular scores to date.

The concert closes with James MacMillan's Stomp. The worlds of Tchaikovsky and Mozart collide in this wacky and iconoclastic work.
