Concert Information

The Â鶹ԼÅÄ Philharmonic at Hull City Hall conducted by Alpesh Chauhan and featuring Â鶹ԼÅÄ New Generation Artist ,violinist Esther Yoo. The programme opens with two pieces with a Hungarian influence; excerpts from Dvořák’s Slavonic Dances, a series of 16 orchestral pieces inspired by Brahms' Hungarian Dances, followed by Ravel’s rhapsodic composition Tzigane, whose name derives from the French word for gypsy and is dedicated to Hungarian violinist Jelly d'Arányi. The second half is centred on the works of two of the greatest British composers; Vaughan Williams’, whose Lark Ascending was inspired by the George Meredith poem of the same name and remains one of the most popular pieces of classical music, and Elgar, whose Enigma Variations comprises 14 variations, each one a musical sketch of one of the composer’s acquaintances, including his wife, Alice, and even himself!

There will be a pre-concert lecture at 6.15pm with Dr Simon Debruslais (Lecturer in Music, School of Drama, Music and Screen at Hull University) and a pre-concert talk at 6.40pm with Alpesh Chauhan. Both are free to ticket holders.
