Concert Information
Tonight, burlesque comes to The Bridgewater Hall. Petrushka is a puppet brought to life in Igor Stravinsky’s electrifying ballet. Taking centre stage is Mardi Gras with all its carnival atmosphere; there are noisy revellers, curious circus acts and a magician who gives wooden dolls a soul – for just one night.
The spotlight also shines on one of the world’s most distinguished trumpet players, Håkan Hardenberger. We get a double helping of him, in Haydn’s famous Concerto, plus a unique opportunity to hear the vivid sounds of Franco-American composer Betsy Jolas’s Onze Lieder.
For starters, Richard Strauss creates a comic portrait of Till Eulenspiegel a scandalous character who is nothing but trouble. It’s an evening of pure spectacle with our Chief Conductor John Storgårds at the reins and the orchestra at its riotous best.
