Concert Information
John Wilson returns to the helm to conduct an afternoon of American composer Aaron Copland's music.
The programme begins with the invigorating An Outdoor Overture composed in 1938 for performance in the indoor auditorium of the High School of Music and Art in New York City.
Copland's expressive Dance Symphony explores different styles of movement, borrowing themes from another of his works, the ballet Grohg. Symphony No.1, originally written for orchestra and organ, was re-worked by Copland for a large orchestra - the version we hear today.
Concluding this programme will be Copland’s Statements for Orchestra, comprising of six short movements: Military, Cryptic, Dogmatic, Subjective, Jingo, and Prophetic.
This concert is a live broadcast for Â鶹ԼÅÄ Radio 3.
