Folk heroes

Conor O'Brien's indie band released second album Awayland at the beginning of this year. Riding on the success of Mercury nominated debut Becoming a Jackal, the Guardian praised his music for creating 'an eerie sense of disquiet'.

Support slots for Wild Beasts, Elbow and Tracy Chapman have followed as well as persistent appearances on the festival circuit and performances on RTÉ Two’s Other Voices and Later... with Jools Holland. Often compared to Bright Eyes and Sufjan Stevens, O'Brien's music is rooted in Irish singer song writing traditions but contains pervasive influences from the American wilderness, allowing the tightly-constructed, emotional melodies to usher in a new era of folk.
