Concert Information

William Walton was the original angry young man. He came from Oldham - and he never minced his words. So forget everything you thought you knew about British music; written in those uneasy inter-war years, Walton's First Symphony is a controlled explosion of anger, passion, and shattering power.

There's no way to follow it, so guest conductor Yutaka Sado begins the concert with something completely different: the action-packed theme from Thunderbirds! Two fragrant French showpieces make an enchanting showcase for violinist Sayaka Shoji, and a fantastic contrast to the sheer musical wizardry of Dukas' The Sorcerer's Apprentice - don't miss this chance to hear this magical score in full orchestral Technicolor.
