This second concert by the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra pairs Sibelius鈥檚 tempestuous First Symphony with the deeply felt emotions of Prokofiev鈥檚 Second Violin Concerto, closing with Strauss鈥檚 waltz-filled Der Rosenkavalier suite.

About This Event

The second concert from Yannick N茅zet-S茅guin and the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra pays tribute to the 150th anniversary of the birth of Proms founder-conductor Henry Wood.

A passionate champion of new music, Wood gave the UK premieres of many major works featured this season, including both Sibelius鈥檚 turbulent Symphony No. 1 and Prokofiev鈥檚 Second Violin Concerto 鈥� played here by Gil Shaham 鈥� whose initial simplicity and directness give way to spiky virtuosity in the finale.

The concert closes in Vienna, with the waltz-filled and lushly orchestrated suite from Richard Strauss鈥檚 popular opera Der Rosenkavalier.
