The Â鶹ԼÅÄ Singers and conductor Peter Phillips, a leading expert on Tallis, perform music from 16th century England. Taverner’s mass Missa O Michael is based around the original plainsong appointed to be sung on the feast day of St Michael. An early work of Taverner’s, it both looks back to the 15th century choral polyphonic world exhibited in the Eton Choir book, and forward to the uniquely English, expressive choral writing which was to become the composer’s signature style. The mass is complemented by two motets by composers who were born during Taverner’s lifetime – Salvator mundi by John Sheppard and Thomas Tallis’s gloriously uplifting tribute to the Blessed Virgin Mary – Videte miraculum.
Admission to this concert is on a first-come, first-served basis. Please note that as not everyone who asks for tickets uses them, to make sure we have a full house we send out more tickets than there are places. We do our best to get the numbers right, but unfortunately we occasionally have to disappoint people so please arrive early.
