Concert Information
For today’s programme, John Wilson conducts music from both sides of the channel for a live Â鶹ԼÅÄ Radio 3 broadcast.
Au Gre des ondes (arr. Kenneth Hesketh) is the first of two French pieces this afternoon – and the first UK performance of one of Dutilleux’s extant piano works. Ravel’s suite of waltzes, Valses nobles et sentimentales, displays an eclectic blend of Impressionist and Modernist music, and its soft tones give a delicate reflection of the iconic dance.
Delius takes us to England with his orchestral variations of a traditional English Folk song- originally penned as a choral work by Percy Grainger, and Tenor Robin Tritschler joins the orchestra for Vaughan Williams’s quintessentially English On Wenlock Edge, comprising six short studies from Housman's 1896 collection, A Shropshire Lad.
This concert is a live broadcast for Â鶹ԼÅÄ Radio 3.
