Written in London but looking home to Barry in Wales, homesickness and a longing for the seaside inspired Grace Williams’ Sea Sketches which opens tonight’s programme. Mahler then takes us on a gargantuan symphonic journey in his mighty fifth symphony. This colossal symphony bristles with intensity as sombre marches and storms are overcome by music of light and hope, and that’s not to mention the gloriously impassioned Adagietto.
To conduct this concert we are absolutely delighted to welcome back conductor Christoph König
