Talk Information

An introduction to the life and music of Henryk Górecki, the man and the music, by Polish music expert Professor Adrian Thomas.

When his Symphony of Sorrowful Songs burned itself into the world’s imagination in the early 1990s, few had heard of Henryk Górecki. But for the previous four decades he had established himself as one of Poland’s most individual composers, journeying from avant-garde experiment to the simple, monumental style of his maturity. Direct, passionate and profoundly engaged with the folk culture of southern Poland, Gorecki’s own character shines through his music. In this Total Immersion we’re joined by expert performers and commentators to rediscover the man and his output, from his haunting quartets to the radiant choral works and his powerful second symphony ‘Copernican’.
